What Is Maca?
Maca (not matcha!) is a cruciferous vegetable also known as Peruvian ginseng. For at least the last 2,000 years, it’s grown in the Andes mountains of Peru. In South America, it’s traditionally used both as a medicine and as a key ingredient in maca chicha, which is a beer-like fermented drink made with corn.
Maca root powder provides several important nutrients, including amino acids and adaptogens.
How to Use It
Powder is the most common way people consume the vegetable, partly because of how easy it is to incorporate into a diet. It is often mixed into goodies like smoothies, oatmeal, baked goods, energy bars and more.
