What is Kefir and Why Should You Eat It?

KefirHave you tried Kefir? If not, maybe you should. Your body will thank you!

    What is Kefir?

Kefir is a cultured dairy product with probiotic content. It is similar to yogurt in texture and taste, but is actually developed a little differently and contains different strains of bacteria. It also contains beneficial yeast, vitamins, minerals and easily digestible complete proteins.

Kefir is made using “starter grains,” which are a combination of bacteria and yeasts that interact with the milk when cultured at room temperature. It can be created with a number of different milks: cow, sheep, goat, soy, rice, and coconut. It’s even safer than yogurt for those who are lactose intolerant! The abundance of friendly yeast and bacteria provide lactase, which is an enzyme that consumes most of the lactose left as a result of the culturing process.

It’s creamy consistency and slightly tart flavour, make it great for breakfast or a quick snack.

Still not convinced it’s your thing? Try a probiotic supplement!

The stomach is just as important as your brain, to be able to have a healthy gut one needs good bacteria to deal with the bad bacteria. Simple if we only knew how, and that is through probiotics. It is found in our food and one good way is drinking Kefir!
