Can you trust the claims on your current probiotic? Do you know what you’re taking is safe? According to a recent study, trusting probiotic labels could be a mistake.
Study Proves Probiotic Labels Inaccurate
If you currently take a probiotic supplement, it may be time to rethink your brand of choice.
Scientists at the University of California conducted a study involving 16 undisclosed probiotic brands to determine if what the probiotic brands claimed to be in their products was actually found inside. Each brand underwent DNA-based testing to find out. The study focused specifically on the strain Bifidobacterium longum (B. longum), which has two subspecies that are difficult to differentiate.
The Shocking Results
Study results show only 1 out of 16 probiotic brands exactly matched the strains to the claims on their labels. Some brands even displayed inaccuracies that differed from pill to pill! Products even contained bacteria species that weren’t specified on their labels to begin with.
These results suggest that when it comes to probiotics, it’s possible you have no idea what you’re really taking, which is truly scary.
Although probiotic supplements are recognised as GRAS (generally regarded as safe), inconsistencies in strains could lead to inaccurate results in clinical trials and prove your probiotic of choice ineffective depending on your goals. It could also be harmful, depending on your body and your needs.
Unfortunately, the high regulatory standards needed for probiotics just aren’t in place yet. That means companies don’t have to do the testing required to make sure your probiotic is what you think it is.
With all of this in mind, how is it possible to be absolutely sure your probiotic is safe to take?
DNA Verified: Probiotics You Can Trust
Since probiotic labels have proven to be less trustworthy than we once thought, it becomes increasingly important to choose probiotics that have been DNA tested and verified by a third party lab.
DNA Verification allows the brand and the consumer the only way to be absolutely sure you are receiving the beneficial strains you intended. This process is expensive and time-consuming, so most brands just don’t do it – and they aren’t required to by law.
Probiogen is the only retail probiotic brand to openly provide proof of DNA verification on their strains, meaning that Probiogen is a probiotic supplement you can trust! Their commitment to DNA testing means your gut will always receive what you read on the label, no questions asked. Even better, Probiogen is also one of the only retail probiotic brand to verify gastric survival, meaning its strains are proven to make it through the harsh gastric system and into the gut alive.
With 7 different formulas, all DNA tested and verified, Probiogen can make achieving your health and wellness goals a bit easier by taking the guesswork out of finding a reliable probiotic that really works.
