Minoxidil v. Aminexil: Comparing Hair Loss Ingredients

Comparing Hair Loss Ingredients

Comparing Hair Loss IngredientsThere are many products available on the market to treat hair loss but choosing one can be very difficult. Some of the most popular products have the same ingredients and it can be hard to determine which products will work best for you. Two of the most common ingredients in hair loss products are minoxidil and aminexil, which are both topical treatments to stop the loss of hair and regrow hair. Here are some similarities and differences between the two ingredients to help you decide which may work best for you.

How are Minoxidil and Aminexil similar?

Minoxidil is most commonly used in combination with aminexil to increase the effectiveness of hair growth products. They are both used to restore hair on the vertex of the scalp, or the upper part of the head. Both ingredients have been used to increase blood circulation to the hair follicles, thus increasing hair growth. They are both also most effective for men and women with androgenic alopecia, or hereditary hair loss.

How are Minoxidil and Aminexil different?Comparing Hair Loss Ingredients

While minoxidil and aminexil are often used together, there are some products that only use one ingredient or the other. Here are a few differences to keep in mind when choosing a product:

Minoxidil has been proven to regrow hair on the top of the head. It is most commonly used in solutions in either 2% (for women) or 5% (for men) and is usually applied two times a day, for four hours at a time. Minoxidil was originally used as a blood pressure medication when the side effect of hair regrowth was discovered due to the increase in circulation.

Aminexil is a more recent discovery that has been used commonly in shampoos for hair loss prevention. It has been found to prevent the hardening of the hair shaft and collagen buildup around it. Those in the early stages of hair loss may see the best results from an aminexil product, whereas those with advanced stages may see no results at all. Many people who experience side effects from minoxidil products may also see results with aminexil products. Using both minoxidil and aminexil together may provide the best results for those with any stage of hair loss.

Hair loss can be a difficult and devastating experience for both men and women. Fortunately, there are many choices of hair loss products for those who think a topical treatment could work for them. Keep these ingredients in mind when choosing a product that’s right for you.

IS there one that is safer than the other? Cause i a little worried about using something for the rest of my life.

    • BIOVEA on said:

      Hello Tara,

When used as directed, both Mixoidil and Aminexil products are effective and safe to use. For Hair Regrowth products, different amounts of ingredients are used for men and women. It is important that the amount used is not over the percentage that is recommend. For Women, this will be 2% for Minoxidil.

If you can let us know the area on your head and type of hair loss and/or thinning that you are currently experiencing, we will be happy to recommend the best products for you specifically.

Thank you again and please let us know if you have any additional questions.

      Dear Abhishek,

We will be happy to help recommend products for you. If you are currently experiencing hair loss on the front part of your head, the best product would be SPECTRAL® DNC – Treatment for Thinning Hair (MINOXIDIL 5% / AMINEXIL SP94 / RETINOL) 60ml. This product is intended for both the crown of the scalp and frontal baldness (receding hairline).

Another product that can be used along with this is, FOLIGAIN® for Hair Loss 120 Caplets. This product is taken orally and provides the hair follicles with the proper nutrients in order to grow.

If you have any additional questions regarding these or other product options, please feel free to contact us directly by e-mail and we will be happy to assist you.

I was using minoxidil only since 4years.at initial stages I used only 2%,didnt see any improvement (no new hair growth but hair loss is stopped)then I stopped in 2010 late.after 4 5 months hair loss happens badly so I started again mixodil 10% this time from 2011 september. It works and no further loss occurs may be some new growth too.I was happy but this year in march or april I used minoxidil with aminexil for one month only coz my product(mintop 10) was not available at the store that time.but suddenly my hair loss again starts vigorously from last month and still continues.is it any side effect of amenoxil?I think so now what should I do?can I go for hair weaving (not transplant) and use mintop too?pls suggest.thank you so much.

Hair regrowth products are designed to be continuously used regularly over long periods of time. If you changed the type of product that you were using or the amount of Minoxidil in the product you were using, this may be the reason that that your positive results have stopped. We recommend that you begin using the product that you received positive results again as soon as possible.

We do offer an EZ-Dispatch program, which is designed to automatically ship a product(s) to you on a schedule that you create. This way, you will always have enough stock of the product that you need to use regularly. If you have more questions about this program or would like us to help you set one up, you can contact our Customer Service department directly and we will be happy to assist you in doing so.

Thank you for your message. We will be happy to help answer your questions.

Aminexil is a patented molecule that is the result of over 10 years of research at L’Oreal laboratories. Research has indicated that hair loss is linked to the stiffening of the hair roots and Aminexil has been specifically developed to prevent the stiffening and premature aging of the roots. Aminexil is the only other clinically proven medication, along with Minoxidil that has been shown to be effective in the treatment of hair loss.

Unfortunately, we do not carry a Spironolactone product at this time as this is a medication used to treat certain patients with hyperaldosteronism and edema. We would not advise using this product for hair regrowth and we would highly recommend consulting with your health care professional before using it.

If you are experiencing positive results from the combination of Minoxidil and Aminexil, we would recommend continuing the use of this product for further positive results.

Some other products that you could try in-addition to Minoxidil/Aminexil would be Foligain For Hair Loss caplets and Revita High Performance Hair Growth Stimulating Shampoo and Cor Conditioner. These products can be found directly on our Biovea site.

Thank you again and please let us know if you have any additional questions.

I read much about using Minoxidil and aminexil together to achieve best result of hair growth; but yet to hear how to use these two products together. Should they be use together one after another and any recommendation on which should come first, since aminexil is to address the stiffness of the hair root.

If I am not mistaken, a 60ml aminexil cost 3 times the price of minoxidil. So, should one uses aminexil more sparingly than minoxidil to optimize, not maximize, the cost-and-effectiveness results physically and economically?

        Thanks

        • BIOVEA on said:

          Hello KC Edward,

We do actually carry two products, Spectral DNC – Treatment for Thinning Hair and Spectral DNC-L Advanced Treatment for Thinning Hair that contain both Minoxidil and Aminexil active ingredients. Using a product that contains both of these ingredients will help to provide faster and better than medications containing only Minoxidil with similar tolerability and side effects.

Thank you again for your interest in our products.

I have used both minoxidil and aminexil. Minoxidil worked really well, though it leaves buildup in the hair. It helps to regrow hair. Not sure how far aminexil works. It doesn’t leave a buildup though.
